5 reasons why you should bleed your radiator
Bleeding a radiator might sound fiddly, but it’s actually a really quick and easy way to save money.

And that could make a big difference when you need to have the heating on over the next few months.
So with the colder months fast approaching, now could be the right time to get this done…
1. Save money on heating bills
Air trapped in a radiator stops hot water circulating properly, so releasing it means your radiator can operate more efficiently and waste less energy, which in turn saves you money on your bills.
2. Heat your rooms more evenly
If a radiator feels warm at the bottom but cold at the top, that’s suggests you’ve got trapped air.
By releasing the air, the whole panel should heat up evenly, so you’ll be less tempted to crank up the thermostat.
3. Quieter radiators and fewer gurgles
Air in the system causes knocking, bubbling or gurgling noises.
If you remove the air, your radiators will run quietly, so you won’t have annoying background noises disturbing you at home.
4. Less strain on your boiler
When radiators don’t circulate properly, your boiler has to work harder.
That can mean your boiler is more likely to break down and need costly repairs.
5. Lower carbon footprint
By making sure your radiators are operating more efficiently, you’ll be helping to reduce your environmental impact.
How often should you bleed your radiators?
As a rule of thumb, check and bleed at the start of each heating season, and if you hear gurgling or notice cold patches at any time.
It’s a small job to do but it will pay off in many ways, particularly as the new energy price cap is kicking in at the start of October.
