Could you get £150 energy bill discount?
Millions of families are to be sent letters by the government letting them know they’re eligible for the warm home discount.

In most cases, the £150 discount will be automatically deducted from energy bills, so eligible households don’t need to do anything.
But some will need to provide extra information to make sure they get the money off, so they’ll be told to call a helpline before 26 February 2027.
Who can get the warm home discount?
You’re eligible for a £150 one-off discount if you’re named on the bill and receive one of the following means-tested benefits:
- universal credit
- pension credit (guarantee credit and savings credit)
- income support
- housing benefit
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
But you won’t get the payment automatically unless you’re named.
How many households are eligible?
Around 6m households across Britain will receive the warm home discount in the next few months.
“I know that many families will be struggling with their energy bills this winter,” said Polly Billington, minister for energy consumers.
“That is why I urge those who think they qualify for the warm home discount to keep an eye out for a letter confirming their eligibility.”
What can I do if I’m struggling with energy bills?
Of course, a £150 discount won’t cover the full cost of your winter energy bills.
But it could make a difference to some, especially alongside other measures such as scrapping VAT on household electricity bills for six months.
So if you’re struggling with bills, the best thing you can do is speak to your supplier as soon as possible.
They might be able to offer payment plans, grants and advice on managing your account.

It could also be worth trying to reduce how much energy you use at home.
Just a few small changes in your habits, such as not filling the kettle to the top or only using the washing machine when you’ve got a full load, can save you money.
