With just two cheap ingredients, you can make your own flatbreads in just a couple of minutes.
And even better - you don’t need specialist baking knowledge or any expensive equipment.
All you need is some flour and natural yoghurt.
A cheap 1.5kg bag of plain flour only costs around 70p, and a non-branded 500g tub of yoghurt about £1.
So it’s a cheap, filling and satisfying way to liven up lots of different meals.
What you’ll need
Serves 4
- 300g plain flour (about one standard mug or cup)
- 300g natural yoghurt (about one standard mug or cup)
If you don’t have scales, just use equal amounts of flour and yoghurt.
One of the great things about this recipe is that you don’t have to be exact.
You can even mix it up by adding a few of your favourite seasonings, like garlic, herbs, paprika or chilli powder, so it’s different every time.
How to make them
1. Put the flour and yoghurt into a bowl.
2. Mix them together until they form a soft dough.
3. Sprinkle a little flour onto your work surface so it doesn’t stick.
4. Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
5. Roll each one out flat using a rolling pin, bottle, or your hands.
6. Heat a frying pan on the hob (no oil needed).
7. Cook each flatbread for two or three minutes on each side until they’re cooked through.
8. And then dish up alongside your main meal.
A versatile recipe
These flatbreads work with almost anything.
You could dip them into soup or alongside a curry.
Or maybe use them to make a sandwich, or have them with beans, eggs or cheese.
The options are endless - and they’ll cost you a fraction of the cost of shop-bought bread or wraps.
So get experimenting, keep your supermarket bill down and your tastebuds happy, all at the same time.
