What to make with bolognese sauce - apart from the obvious
We’re all about making the food you’ve got in go further, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat the same meal every night.

You can use the same ingredients in lots of different ways to keep mealtime interesting.
A bolognese sauce, for example, doesn’t just have to be served up with spaghetti.
What you’ll need to make the bolognese sauce
- 1kg of minced beef
- 2 cartons of passata
- a chopped onion
- Herbs and spices, such as garlic granules, chilli flakes and oregano
How to make the sauce
Fry the chopped onion in a pan for a few minutes and then add the minced beef.
When the mince has browned a bit, add the passata, herbs and spices and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
And that's it.
You might have noticed we’ve encouraged you to use a large portion of mince in the list of ingredients.
But there’s a good reason for that.
If you buy in bulk, making a large portion of bolognese sauce involves no extra effort at all.
So you can easily spread it across lots of meals on different days, and it saves you money in the long run.
Three different ways to use bolognese sauce
Okay, so you've made the sauce. What can you actually do with it?
1. Pasta bake
Boil up some pasta, drain the water away and transfer to a casserole dish.
Next, add generous helpings of bolognese sauce and stir it all together.
Then sprinkle some grated cheese on the top and place in a pre-heated oven at about 200°C (180°C fan).
Bake in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the top starts to crisp up.
2. Jacket potatoes
If you had a spag bol last night and have some sauce left over, don’t let it go to waste.
Instead, just reheat it and spoon it over a hot jacket potato.
And as a final touch, add a dollop of natural yoghurt or some grated cheese.
It’s a great lunchtime option at home or at work, or a quick tea if you need it.
3. Wraps
Sprinkle some grated cheese on a tortilla wrap and spoon on some warm bolognese sauce.
Next, fold the wrap into a parcel or burrito shape, and brush it with a beaten egg.
Bake in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes at about 200°C (180°C fan), until the wrap has turned golden brown.
Use your freezer
If you’re making a large batch of bolognese sauce at home, it’s also worth setting some aside into individual portions, letting it cool and putting it in the freezer.
You’ve then got it ready to go next time you need a quick tea and can’t be bothered nipping out to the shop.
Future you will be thankful that you’ve thought ahead.
