Are you missing out on up to £1,708 a month?
Hundreds of thousands of people across the UK may be missing out on nearly £2,000 a month as a result of widespread confusion around three key Department for Work and Pensions benefits.

Many who qualify for up to £1,708 a month don’t apply either because they’re unaware financial support is available, or they wrongly believe they’re ineligible.
Top three overlooked benefits
-
universal credit – worth up to £400 a month
-
pension credit – up to £400 a month
-
attendance allowance – up to £908 a month
The gas company Cadent, which runs support programmes across the UK, has found that these three benefits are the most commonly misunderstood.
Demand for financial support surged by 118% last winter, with over 20,000 people seeking help through its Centres for Warmth scheme.
"Despite the seasonal shift, we’re still seeing sustained – and in many cases, increasing – footfall at our Centres for Warmth across the country, with people continuing to seek refuge and support, particularly around debt,” said Phil Burrows, head of customer vulnerability and social purpose at Cadent.
"These findings highlight the growing financial pressure on vulnerable households and while these measures are supportive, the scale of rising need remains deeply concerning,” he added.
More support is available
Alongside benefits, the government has announced plans to expand the following schemes to help households cope with the cost of living:
-
winter fuel payments
-
warm home discount scheme
