In fact, new figures from Barclays show that nearly one in four (24%) people plan to spend more on experiences and events this summer than they did last summer.

And consumer confidence on spending on non-essentials has risen to its highest point in three years.

Oasis fans spending hundreds on reunion tour

Nowhere is this more apparent than among Oasis fans, as they gear up for the band’s long-awaited reunion tour this summer.

Fans are set to spend an average of £171.10 on tickets.

That’s a lot of money for one night - and that’s before you factor in other costs.

On average, people going to the Oasis gigs will spend:

  • £108 on accommodation
  • £70.50 on travel
  • £73.70 on clothing
  • £59.70 on official merchandise
  • £75.20 on pre-concert food and drinks

In total, Oasis fans are set to spend an average of £766 each on tickets and other expenses.

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of concert-goers admitted they’d spent more than they had planned or expected, but still think it’ll be worth the extra cost.

And while many will be digging out old Oasis t-shirts that they haven’t worn for years, more than two in three (67%) plan to buy clothes and accessories especially for these gigs.

Experiences are now a financial priority

“The experience economy is no longer a trend,” said Rich Robinson, head of hospitality and leisure at Barclays.

“It’s a fundamental shift in how consumers determine their financial priorities.

“Just as we saw with last year’s Eras Tour, fans are willing to go to great lengths when there is an emotional connection.”

Tom Corbett, managing director of sponsorships and media at Barclays, added: “Oasis fans are putting their budgets to work to relive a golden era of Britpop.

“From new outfits to food and merchandise, ticket holders are showing that when it comes to once-in-a-generation moments, they are more than willing to roll with it.”
