Supply disruptions can quickly lead to higher supermarket prices, which is why now can be a smart time to stock up on non-perishable essentials.

These are the foods that last for months (or even years) in your cupboard, and buying them when they’re on offer can save you money down the line.

To make it easier, we’ve done the legwork for you and rounded up some of the best deals this week on ‘stockpile’ staples.

The best foods to stock up on

When building a cupboard reserve, focus on long-lasting staples you’ll actually use, such as:

  • grains: rice, pasta, oats
  • protein: tinned tuna, salmon, beans and lentils
  • canned goods: tomatoes, vegetables and fruit
  • cooking essentials: olive oil, vegetable oil, peanut butter, honey
  • flavour staples: salt, spices and stock cubes
  • quick snacks: granola bars and crackers

These simple items can help you throw together quick, affordable meals whenever you need them.

Best stockpile deals this week

Great deal on rice - Tilda pure basmati rice (500g) – £2.50 at Morrisons

Rice is one of the most versatile cupboard staples you can have. It lasts ages and works in everything from curries to quick stir-fries.

Right now you can pick up 500g of Tilda pure basmati rice for £2.50 at Morrisons, down from £3. That works out at £5 per kilo.

If you’re building a food reserve, you really can’t have too much rice.

The offer available until 7 April 2026.

Great deal on tinned tuna - John West no drain tuna chunks 3 x 100g - £3.24 at Asda

Tinned tuna is a brilliant protein to keep in the cupboard. You can turn it into pasta, sandwiches, salads, or quick jacket-potato toppings.

As Asda, you can currently get three 100g tins of John West no drain tuna chunks for £3.24, down from £3.98. That’s £1.08 per 100g.

Great deal on tinned tomatoes - Cirio Italian Chopped Tomatoes - £2.50 for 4 x 400g at Ocado

Tinned tomatoes are the backbone of countless meals, from pasta sauces to soups and stews.

At Ocado, you can grab four 400g tins of Cirio Italian chopped tomatoes for £2.50, reduced from £4.70. That’s £1.56 per kilo.

This offer’s available until 24 March 2026.

Great deal on olive oil  Napolina extra virgin olive oil 500ml - £4.50 with a Clubcard

Olive oil prices have soared in recent years, but it’s still a kitchen essential for cooking, dressing salads, and finishing dishes.

If you’re a Clubcard holder, Tesco is offering a 500ml bottle of Napolina extra virgin olive oil for £4.50, or £9 a litre. It’s £6 without a Clubcard, so it’s well worth scanning your card.

Great deal on salt - Sainsbury's table salt bottle 750g

Salt might be simple, but it’s an absolute kitchen essential, and it lasts practically forever.

You can currently pick up Sainsbury's 750g table salt for 65p, which works out at just 87p a kilo.

Stocking up isn’t about panic buying, it’s about buying smart when prices are good.

If you pick up a few long-lasting essentials each time they’re discounted, you’ll gradually build a well-stocked cupboard that helps you save money, reduce food waste, and make meal planning easier. And if prices do rise, you’ll be glad you stocked up while the deals were still there.
