You’re eligible for a £150 one-off discount if you’re named on the bill and receive one of the following means-tested benefits:

But you won’t get the payment automatically unless you’re named.

What do I need to do?

Your details need to match the supplier’s records by Sunday 24 August.

So check your electricity bill and if your name isn’t there, contact your supplier right away.

And if you’re on a prepayment meter, make sure your account is registered to you, not just the property address.

“If you know someone who might be eligible, please start spreading the word to family and friends, encouraging them to check they are named on their energy bill,” said Miatta Fahnbulleh, minister for energy consumers.

How many people are eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount has been expanded this year, which brings the total number of people who’ll benefit to around six million, including:

  • 900,000 families with children
  • 1.8 million households in fuel poverty

“We took decisive action earlier this year to expand the Warm Home Discount, giving more working families certainty and peace of mind before winter,” Ms Fahnbulleh said.

“I now want to make sure as many eligible households as possible get £150 off their energy bill, putting more money in their pockets as part of our Plan for Change.

Last year, 96% of eligible households got their discount automatically.

Every little helps

While £150 won’t cover the full cost of your winter energy bills, it can go a long way, especially if you’re already making savings by being savvy with your usage, switching providers or accessing extra help.
