DWP changes to Easter payment dates 2025

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed changes to benefit and pension payment dates over the Easter bank holiday weekend. And it could mean cash hitting your account sooner than expected.

The changes affect anyone who is due to be paid on Good Friday (18 April) or Easter Monday (21 April).

Instead of receiving it on these days, you’ll get your money on Thursday 17 April.

That’s three or four days early, which is great. But it also means it’ll have to make it last you longer too.

Who’s getting paid early?

Anyone expecting a DWP or HMRC payment on 18 or 21 April should be affected. This includes:

  • Universal Credit (if you're on a non-monthly cycle)
  • State Pension
  • PIP
  • ESA
  • JSA
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • DLA
  • Child Benefit
  • Tax Credits
  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support

So if your usual payment day is a Friday or a Monday over Easter, keep an eye out – you’ll be paid on this Thursday.

If your money usually comes on a different day, you won’t be affected.

Check your bank account

Payments usually land just after midnight on the day they’re due. But some banks take longer than others to process them.

If your money doesn’t turn up straight away, don’t panic. Give it a few hours and check again later in the day.

Still no sign? Call your bank or contact the DWP or HMRC directly.

Make it last

It might feel like a bonus to get your money early. But remember, your next payment date stays the same. That means there could be a longer gap before the next one.

Try to budget carefully over the Easter break, especially if you're stocking up on food or sorting out days out for the kids.
