Men’s Health Month: closing the empathy gap and supporting financial wellbeing
This Men’s Health Month, the focus is on closing the empathy gap. In other words, raising awareness of the serious health challenges men face and the lack of opportunities many have to speak openly and get the support they need.

The statistics are stark. According to Bupa, every hour in the UK, 15 men die prematurely. Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women and face greater risks of developing life-limiting conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.
Despite these challenges, men are often less likely to ask for help, whether it’s about their health or their finances.
The connection between health and money
Struggling with physical or mental health can have a big impact on your finances. You might find it harder to work or manage day-to-day money tasks. You may face extra costs for travel to appointments, medication or specialist equipment. Or you may feel too drained to face up to money issues, avoiding bills or falling behind on payments.
At Money Wellness, we understand that health and money often go hand in hand. That’s why we take a holistic approach to debt advice and financial support - one that recognises the bigger picture.
Helping you get the support you need
We know it’s not always easy to open up, especially if you’re used to ‘just getting on with it’. But if you’re struggling with your health, sharing this with us can make a real difference.
If a health condition, whether physical or mental, is affecting your finances, or if you need us to make adjustments to the way we communicate with you, we’re here to help. You don’t need to go into detail if you don’t want to. But simply letting us know something’s going on means we can better support you.
Here's how we can help
- Benefit checks – We can check if you’re missing out on financial support you’re entitled to, including health-related benefits.
- Service adjustments – If you need more time to respond, prefer phone calls to emails, or require documents in a certain format, we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
- Links to extra support – We can refer you to organisations offering specialised support with everything from mental health to long-term illness.
- A non-judgemental approach – You’ll never be made to feel ashamed or brushed aside. We understand the pressures men face and we’re here to listen.
Let’s change the conversation
Men’s Health Month is a chance to highlight the challenges, but also the change. Together, we can help close the empathy gap by creating more space for honesty, support and action.
If you’re facing health or money worries - or both - you don’t have to go through it alone. Reach out. Speak up. And let us support you in the way that works best for you.
