One simple check could save you £150 this winter

If you qualify for the Warm Home Discount, you could receive £150 off your electricity bill this winter. But there's one important thing you need to do first.

To receive the discount automatically, you must be named on your electricity bill by 23 August. If your name isn't on the account, you could miss out on the payment.

Are you eligible?

You may qualify for the £150 Warm Home Discount if you're named on your electricity account and receive one of these means-tested benefits:

• universal credit
• pension credit (guarantee credit and savings credit)
• income support
• housing benefit
• income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) 

Following changes to the scheme, more households are now eligible, with every household where the billpayer receives a qualifying means-tested benefit set to receive the rebate.

What do you need to do?

Take a minute to check your electricity bill today.

If your name isn't on the account, contact your electricity supplier as soon as possible so your details can be updated before 23 August.

If you use a prepayment meter, make sure the account is registered in your name and not just linked to your property's address.

The details on your account need to match your supplier's records to make sure you receive the discount automatically.

Have you recently moved home?

If you've moved house recently, it's especially important to check that your electricity account is in your name. This is one of the main reasons eligible households can miss out on the payment.

The government has confirmed that millions of eligible households will continue receiving the Warm Home Discount throughout the rest of the decade, with the scheme running until 2030/31.
