What’s the cheapest supermarket?
Lidl has been named as the cheapest supermarket by consumer group Which?

The budget retailer beat Aldi into second place, with Asda coming in at third.
Which? based its calculation on a shopping basket of 76 items.
At Lidl, it cost an average of £128.40.
That’s slightly cheaper than the £129.25 paid at Aldi and £139.53 at Asda.
Tesco came next, with the loyalty discount helping the shopping basket come to £141.92, and a similar basket at Sainsbury’s - again including the loyalty discount - cost £144.21.
What if I’m doing a bigger shop?
Which? also compared the prices of a bigger trolley shop consisting of 192 items.
These didn’t include Aldi and Lidl, as they have a smaller range of products than their competitors.
Asda came out on top, with a big food shop costing an average of £474.12.
This was followed by Tesco, with Clubcard discounts applied, where it cost £481.59
Waitrose was the most expensive supermarket in both categories, with a basket costing £170.91 on average and a trolley-load costing £538.33.
Shop around to save money
"Households are still contending with high food prices,” said Reena Sewraz, retail editor at Which?
“But our analysis shows it pays to shop around.
“Simply choosing one supermarket over another could save you 25%.”
