The supermarket chain is replacing its current 3 for 2 deal at its Food to Go counters and instead letting shoppers buy a main, snack and drink for just £3.74.

That makes the lowest priced meal deal in a UK supermarket for customers without a membership or loyalty card.

“At Asda, we believe great value should be available to everyone,” said Amy Wotherspoon of Asda.

How does Asda’s meal deal price compare with other shops?

Co-op

If you’re a member, you can get a meal deal for just £3.50, while non-members pay £4.

Morrisons

A standard meal deal costs £4, but with a membership, you can pay just £3.60

Premium options are available for £5.50 with membership.

Sainsbury’s

A standard meal deal costs £3.95, so it’s one of the cheapest options if you don’t have a loyalty card.

Meanwhile, premium deals are available at £5.

Tesco

If you have a Tesco Clubcard, a meal deal will cost £3.85.

Without one, it costs £4.25.

Boots

A standard meal deal costs £3.99, but if you’re in London or at an airport, expect to pay £4.99.

It pays to shop around

Buying a meal deal can sometimes feel like a bit of a lottery, with prices shifting depending on loyalty cards and memberships.

And at the same time, some shops will have a better selection of products than others.

But Asda’s latest announcement shows why it’s a good idea to keep an eye on what each supermarket is doing and compare what deals they’re offering.

With just a little bit of planning, you could end up with a bit more change left in your pocket.
