Each Christmas, the big retailers battle it out with rock-bottom prices on staple vegetables, hoping to tempt shoppers through their doors to finish the rest of their festive food shop. Last year, several supermarkets dropped the price of key veg items to as little as 8p - 15p in the days leading up to Christmas.

This year, Aldi, the UK’s fourth-biggest supermarket, looks set to take an early lead. They’ve announced an eye-catching Christmas veg range for just 8p each!

From 18 - 24 December, and while stocks last, Aldi will be offering:

  • sprouts: 8p (500g)
  • carrots: 8p (1kg)
  • parsnips: 8p (500g)
  • broccoli: 8p (360g)
  • potatoes: 8p (2kg)
  • swede: 8p each
  • red and white cabbages (8p each)

Want to beat food inflation all year round?

A few small habits can make a big difference. Try planning your meals in advance, sticking to a shopping list, and keeping an eye on deals that genuinely save you money and don’t just look tempting!

With a bit of strategy, you can keep both your fridge and your wallet feeling a little fuller.

What to do if you’re worried about affording Christmas

If buying presents feels overwhelming this year, you’re not alone, and help is available.

Across the UK, charities, churches, community groups and even some supermarkets run toy appeals and Christmas gift schemes to make sure every child wakes up to something special on Christmas morning.

If you need support, here’s where you can find free or very low-cost Christmas presents for your kids.
