Co-op offers £10 off to thank shoppers after cyber attack
Co-op is saying thank you to its loyal customers with a £10 discount on a £40 shop, following the disruption caused by a recent cyber attack that affected its stores and deliveries.
Published: 18 June 2025
The one-off offer is available in-store for a week from today (Wednesday, 18 June) and is open to existing Co-op members and shoppers who sign up. Staff are excluded from the promotion.
A gesture of appreciation
The retailer says the move is a gesture of appreciation after the difficulties many shoppers experienced when its systems were hit by hackers last month. During the incident, Co-op temporarily shut down parts of its network to contain the damage, which caused stock shortages and delivery issues in some stores.
Now, with operations returning to normal, the £10 discount is designed to welcome customers back and show that the Co-op is fully open for business again.
The majority of Co-op customers don't tend to spend that much in one shop. But if you were planning a slightly larger shop - perhaps to stock up for summer barbecues or fill the freezer - this could be a great opportunity to save a tenner.
How to keep your grocery bills down - with or without a discount
Whether you take up the Co-op offer or not, there are lots of smart ways to cut the cost of your weekly shop. Here are a few simple tips:
1. Make a shopping list – and stick to it
Heading to the shop without a plan is a fast track to overspending. A list helps you avoid unnecessary extras and forgotten essentials.
2. Compare prices between supermarkets
If you have access to more than one supermarket, check prices before you shop. Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices across stores to help you find the best value.
3. Look for yellow sticker bargains
Many supermarkets, including Co-op, reduce items that are close to their use-by date. These discounts are often applied in the evening – perfect if you’re happy to be flexible or pop things in the freezer.
4. Choose own-brand products
Supermarket own brands can be significantly cheaper than big-name items, with very similar quality. A few swaps in your trolley can lead to big savings over time.
5. Use cashback and rewards apps
Apps like Shopmium, GreenJinn, and CheckoutSmart offer cashback or even free products in exchange for uploading your receipt. Every little helps.
6. Plan your meals to reduce food waste
The average UK household wastes £470 worth of food every year. By planning your meals in advance, you can buy only what you need and make the most of what you already have at home.
7. Make the most of loyalty schemes
Supermarket loyalty cards can unlock exclusive discounts, points, or even freebies. If you regularly shop at Co-op or another chain, it’s worth signing up and scanning your card every time.
Final thought
The Co-op’s £10 offer might be a nice bonus if you were planning a bigger shop there anyway. But with rising food prices, it’s the small everyday habits that make the biggest difference to your budget. So, even if you skip the Co-op deal, you can still bag big savings by shopping smart.
