The supermarket has partnered with Royal Mail to roll out parcel lockers across the UK.

Sainsbury’s is the first supermarket to team up with Royal Mail, helping expand parcel drop-off and collection points in easily accessible locations.

Royal Mail launched its parcel locker network in December to keep up with the growing demand for convenient parcel services, especially with more people selling on second-hand marketplaces.

The network now includes 1,500 lockers and 7,000 Collect+ locations across the UK.

What can you expect from Sainsbury’s ‘smart’ lockers?

You’ll be able to:

  • print labels with a QR code

  • collect and send parcels

  • access lockers seven days a week

Where can you find the lockers?

The service is being rolled out quickly across the UK, with red lockers already available in the following Sainsbury’s stores:

  • Clapham

  • Desborough

  • Kempshott

  • Low Hall

  • Kidderminster

  • Chislehurst

How much will it cost?

  • small parcels: from £3.55

  • letterbox-sized parcels: £1.55

Why it’s ‘great news’ for customers

Jack Clarkson, group strategy and transformation director at Royal Mail, said the partnership is ‘great news’ for customers.

“Partnering with a retailer with the scale and popularity of Sainsbury’s is great news for our customers and the UK public, who will now have even more ways to drop off and collect their parcels in convenient locations,” he said.

Cost comparison

If you’re looking to save on postal costs, which is especially important if you buy or sell regularly on platforms like Vinted, eBay or Depop, here’s a price breakdown:

  • Royal Mail: £3.35 (small parcels up to 2kg, 2nd class)

  • InPost: from £1.99 (locker-to-locker), £2.89 (home delivery)

  • Evri: £2.62 (ParcelShop), £3.16 (home delivery)

But remember to look out for those shiny red lockers when you’re next in Sainsbury’s and take care of your shopping and shipping in the same place.
