Hope for a brighter future and providing life-changing support
I was completely shocked and, at first, very scared when I realised my debt had reached around £9,000. Between my credit card, bank overdraft, and PayPal balance, it felt impossible to manage. I didn’t know what to do or what would happen next.
The person who spoke with me was professional, patient, and understanding. She took the time to explain everything clearly and discuss the options available to me. Until that conversation, I had been making all my minimum monthly payments, but the balances never seemed to decrease. I was simply paying the interest on the money I had borrowed.
At the same time, I was going through an extremely difficult period in my personal life. About a year ago, my ex-girlfriend was diagnosed with cancer. After surgery and treatment, we hoped she would recover, and for a few weeks things seemed to be improving. Sadly, the cancer returned and spread to her brain. The doctors told us it was stage 4 and that there was very little they could do beyond radiation therapy. They estimated she had only one to two years to live.
Hearing that news was devastating. A few months ago, my best friend and former partner passed away peacefully in her sleep. I was fortunate to spend time with her towards the end, but saying goodbye was one of the hardest things I have ever experienced.
During this period, I was doing my best to keep up with my finances, but everything became overwhelming. I genuinely worried about what would happen because of my debts. I even wondered whether I could go to jail for owing a few thousand pounds. I always made sure my payments were made on time, and when money was tight, I sold personal belongings on eBay to cover them. Eventually, I began running out of things to sell. Work was also inconsistent. As a chef, I would work for several months and then sometimes face a month without work. In over 20 years of working in London, I had never experienced financial difficulties like this before. Being a chef is not an easy job, but I love what I do and have always worked hard.
Money Wellness has given me hope and support when I needed it most. While I am still learning how the process works, I understand that I will have some relief from my payments, allowing me to focus on work and rebuilding my future without constantly worrying about bills and debt.
Someone once told me that stress is a silent killer. At the time, I did not fully understand what they meant, but now I do. When financial problems and unpaid bills continue to grow, the stress can become overwhelming and affect every part of your life.
I am truly grateful for the help and support I have received. This is an important step towards a better future, and for the first time in a long while, I feel hopeful that I can focus on my work, my wellbeing, and the road ahead.
Thank you very much!
